Thatās my kind of Birthday celebration! Loved reading your recaps of the shows. The Outsiders and Maybe Happy Ending are on my watch list. If you havenāt seen Hadestown yet, I highly recommend!
Saw Six this past week after winning the Broadway lottery. Sat second row mezzanine and I prefer it to orchestra.
Hoping to win the Hamilton lottery one day. And am probably going to pay full price to see Jonathan Geoffās new one because my girls are obsessed w his co-star Gracie Lawrence.
We are heading to NYC this weekend to visit my son and daughter-in-law and always see a show when there, musicals of course! This trip we are seeing SIX. We just saw the touring show of Cher here at home. It was awesome! Thanks for the restaurant recs! We have been to a few of them.
Sounds like a perfect way to celebrate your birthday! My daughter is in school in NYC as a musical theatre major so whenever we go and visit we try to see a show or two. Iām visiting her next week for part of her spring break and we have tickets to The Outsiders and then we are going to rush tickets for other musicals. We LOVED hadestown- seen it 3 times with 3 different casts. Loved &juliet- such a fun show! We will put maybe happy ending on our list!
This is a gem! I've been wanting to see a broadway show forever and finally went for a birthday weekend. I saw Lion King for my first show and I'm hooked. Not only was the cast phenomenal but the thought and preparation from the crew (lighting, costumes, music) was top notch. I'm a fan now and look forward to more Broadway days.
We saw Lion King in London on West End and took my kids recently to see it on Broadway. Fabulous. Itās no wonder itās the 3rd longest running show ever! Only 3rd to Chicago and Phantom!
I'm so glad you enjoyed your birthday trip. Makes me want to catch a Broadway show. We do have two movie musical favorites in common, The Sound of Music and The King and I. My first cousin and I share a love for The Sound of Music so much that we actually vacationed at the time share the family owns in Vermont one year. It was quaint and most of the town closed down by sunset but we enjoyed doing things during the day. The year we went they were about to complete their upscale timeshare accommodations and we actually said we would go back. We didn't and it was probably due to the sunset close down of everything. But truthfully, we wanted to be in by nightfall anyway because you got to the timeshare on a narrow and twisty road up through the mountains and the road didn't have adequate lighting.
Happy Birthday!! What an amazing way to spend your 40th!! Outsiders blew me away! I have read the book and seen the movie and I never expected such an amazing production!! I would have walked right back into the theater to watch it again! Such a simple set that showcased so much! I saw &Juliet last year by myself while my husband and son went to a concert-what a fun, fun show! I would definitely see it again. Wicked is up there as one of my all time favorites-a must see!! Of the shows you shared Iād probably see Death Becomes Her as I am also a Megan Hilty fan. I loved reading about your Broadway birthday-thanks for sharing.
Oh how I ADORED this post: Broadway and music-loving gal at heart, here!!!! I looooove Broadway and musical theatre and watched with pride as CLE restored their historic theatres and expanded Playhouse Square as I was in my 20s and beyond.
I was in all things music in high school, including a show choir that traveled to NYC my junior year. It was a stretch financially, since it was just my Dad. So I worked over in my HS job to save up for fun money.
I was sicker than a dog (pre-no dairy days, I would get really nasty bronchitis every Winter like clockwork and my skin was a constant reminder š) but there was no way my Dad was talking me out of going.
Seeing Cats, Jerome Robbins Broadway and Big River, I thought I was in heaven!! Even if I slept at Mickey Dāa at lunch since I was so tired.
And being the star struck gal I was with NYC, I just HAD to buy something from Macyās: $22.50 was my budget for āsouvenirsā so my gf put money in and I bought patterned socks. HA! (I may* have darned them for years and kept them a long time.)
Fast-forward to college at a conservatory and I āhadā to see performances to fulfill performance attendance requirements. šš¤£ Our theatre dept. has been ranked one of the best in the country, with scouts regularly signing peers to first-run shows. It was truly a magical time. I lived at āthe Conā and sat as friends learned parts for the shows.
Thanks for sharing!! Tell Ryan heās a righteous Dude for squaring this away. My hubbyās first Broadway experience was at 45 when I took him to see Fiddler on the Roof!
We have our 15th anniversary this Fall and this may seal the deal on my trip recommendations (vs. Aulani, but Hawaii can wait). Any recs for where to stay?
Iāve heard very mixed reviews on the Aulani! Itās kept us from going there because Iād hate to spend so much and go all that way and be disappointed. Especially since everything else Disney is always so great.
That sounds like the best birthday! We were in NYC in January to celebrate my and my step-daughterās bdays and went to see Wicked. It was magical! Iāve seen Hadestown 3 times, twice in NYC and when it toured. Itās my favorite!
I know the soundtrack (itās the only one Iāve allowed myself to listen to pre seeing a show because I knew I wouldnāt get to see it for a few years!)! Iām so happy itās touring again and will figure out a way to see it near me!
Wow! What an awesome way to ring in your new decade!! I love how you described everything in detail. Thank you! Iāve never been, but itās on my bucket list⦠Someday.
A beautiful lady after my own heart!! I absolutely love musical theater!! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and recommendations ā¤ļøā¤ļø HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Sounds like a wonderful birthday trip! I love that you take a selfie with the program, Iām totally stealing that idea :) The SF line up looks great for 25-26! We saw stereophonic on Broadway in November and the music is really great for a play. I might have to drive down for Suffs and Hells Kitchen.

Itās been on my list for so long! Itās touring and I will finally see it!

Best. Birthday. Ever!!! I mean, that is just perfection.
