from the test kitchen to the cookbook

I’m bursting with excitement as the writing and testing phase of this cookbook is winding down, and I’m shifting into planning the photography. It’s such a different creative headspace, and honestly one of my favorite parts of the entire process.

I’m sharing my vision board below with you because I’m just giddy about it. I can’t wait to hear what you think. Of course, we’ll bring our own life and character into every shot, but this feels like such a beautiful starting point, and I’m so excited to see it all come together.

In my early books, I did everything myself. Shopping, testing, interior page and cover designing, cooking, styling, photographing, editing, and cleaning every single dish. I sourced and collected props, took a photography class, and taught myself the rest along the way.

When I look back at those first two books, I may cringe a little at the photos, but I’m also incredibly proud. Work that typically requires a full team, I was doing on my own. And both of those books that I created entirely on my own went on to hit the New York Times Bestsellers list, one for 22 weeks.

Once I moved publishers and got to Celebrations, I finally started allocating budget for a photography team. Doing it all myself, while also writing, editing, and designing the interior, honestly took a toll on my health, and I realized it just wasn’t sustainable. These teams are truly incredible at what they do, and the process now looks very different.
